I’ve been a client here for 10 years. My dog has exclusively seen Dr. Cooke. The staff seemed great. Unfortunately, I saw a whole different side this year.
My dog had gastroenteritis in January and before seeing him or evaluating him, they gave me meds to help his stomach. I had to take him to VEG in Shrewsbury because the meds didn’t work. That’s where I found out he also had bladder stones, and a lot of them. In March, I had a bad feeling and brought him to the vet again. I expressed my concern for his incessant itching, which was addressed with a temporary drug, and they only took blood from him. They concluded nothing was wrong. In April, my dog’s urine output was incredibly low despite drinking a lot. I called Keep ‘Em Healthy and they told me they couldn’t do an ultrasound so I needed to take him to an ER. I asked for him medical records to be sent and was told that they couldn’t send them without Dr. Cookes approval. I couldn’t give the ER any records. After that, I decided to seek a new vet.
When I requested his medical records, it took approximately 1 month to get them. I had to send 3 different requests. I took my dog to a new vet, who did a full work up and found that bladder stones were impacting his ability to fully empty his bladder. Within a 2 week span from that vet visit, he had surgery, had internal bleeding, and passed away.
I then messaged Keep ‘Em Healthy to let them know he passed away. I received nothing back from them. A loyal customer for 10 years lost their dog and received silence. His new vet, who saw him after one visit, sent a card and an email with condolences. VEG, who saw him once in January, and once this month (May 2026), where he passed, sent a card and an email.
I am so disappointed in the lack of care both my dog and I have received. I’m disappointed in myself for not listening to my friend, who begged me to go to their vet, and staying loyal to this clinic. I’m disappointed my concerns fell on deaf ears, especially when I discovered my gut was correct. I hope your team does better. Do better for your current and future clients. Give a better check up. Please allow your ego to subside and listen to your clients. And for the love of all that is holy, send a card to your clients when their beloved pet passes.
I’ve been taking my dog to this vet for about 5 years and was very happy with them, but I called today because my dog has what seems like a bad sinus infection (they’ve treated her with antibiotics for this in the past) and I was told to go to a new local vet because they can’t see her until the end of December, almost 2 months from now. The receptionist didn’t care one way or another if they lost a long term customer. A new vet will require an initial visit and exam (more $), records transferred etc. I doubt any local vets are accepting new patients, but I’ll try. It’s sad because Ive been happy with them and they were completely fine with losing us as customers, with no concern over this whatsoever.
I ended up finding an expensive vet in Peterborough that took her same day, they prescribed her antibiotics that worked amazing. But said she might have a tooth infection. When I called Keep Em Healthy to schedule a dental exam, which is very expensive, they got me right in. They also made me pay for an exam even though the Peterborough Hospital faxed them the records from the exam I paid for there.
It’s apparent that they are more interested in money than my dogs health.
My babies have been receiving care at Keep ‘Em Healthy for many years now and we couldn’t be happier with the staff and services.
Everyone is so kind, knowledgeable, and great with animals.
One of my dogs is super friendly and loves visiting the vet, while the other is very anxious and afraid of all the sounds and smells. Even though they are so different, both are given the best quality treatment and staff interactions are specific to their needs.
